********************************************

Brutus is the first, thoroughtly my own Saint Bernard. He came to us at July 4th, 2012, when we went to pick him up from the kennel he was born in. Shortly put, Brutus is a outgoing, funny, loving and temperamental young Saint, who likes to test people - especially males - and see if they have any fire in their belly. He loves to play and show off his toys, sometimes to the point of us people getting a bit annoyed of his constant pestering, but not for too long - he's just so cute and lovable, that usually we just end up playing with him anyway, annoyed at first or not!

Brutus loves the other dogs our family members own and playing with "the pack" is always great fun! He can be a bit vary of strangers, but he's not aggressive nor afraid - he just watches them a bit, trying to figure out what they're up to. This is usually when we are outside the safety-zone of our own house and yard - the shows, walks, etc. Mostly this is due pain, which are caused more or less by his back. Poor nerve quality may have a part to play in this as well.

All and all, Brutus is the light of my life, and I wouldn't change him for the world! I had great plans for this handsome young male, and I really did hope that someday these plans could be put into action! But as I said, "time will tell", and boy did it told us things. At first I had already left Brutus out of breeding plans for his matador infested pedigree lines. And now, after I found out about the spondylosis and laryngeal paralysis, every thought I once had of continuing these lines with him went straight to the bin.

The start of Brutus' spondylosis has it's roots all the way back in when he became two years old, which indicates it is indeed hereditary. I don't and never will accept the use of dogs with moderate to severe spondylosis in breeding, in any breed, especially since it is a hereditary and progressive disease. You can only imagine in which shape the dog is at even when middle aged when it already has severe changes at a young age. Still, this is what breeders keep producing and using, these severely sick dogs/lines. Thank goodness my own heart and soul is clean, since I have the moral and the decency to, in my part, not do this and use the sick lines in my breeding and to help end this practise once and for all. Laryngeal paralysis is also a hereditary and progressive disease, and when the same dog has this many degenerative diseases, there is no doubt if it is hereditary or not. Neither of these diseases, for example, can't be pulled throught without medicines and surgeries. We didn't neither.

But my boy is still always dear to me and I love him with all my heart, and he continues to live with us as a much loved family memeber as long as the nature is willing! And we will continue to spread the word to rid the world of bad breeding/breeders.
